Santa Cruz Sheep Retreat - Sunday May 17th 2009 10-5PM

This is a one day event at Santa Cruz Sheepie Dreams Organic Sheep Farm! This is a fun, fiber themed social event for you! The farm will be open to you exclusively from 10-5PM. Workshops will be led by Urban Fauna Studio staff and Sandra Charlton of Sheepie Dreams.

Who can come? Anyone! No experience required.
What should I bring? Bring your own projects to work on, your wheel or spindle if you have one. And any extra fiber you're looking to stash bust! We will have supplies for all the activities listed below.
Where is this located? 1983 Ocean St. Extension. Santa Cruz, CA 95060

Registration will entitle each person to:

Lunch and Drink. Food will be locally raised and handmade by Sheepie Dreams. Menu to include: Green salad,  Sandwich with avocado, shredded carrots and cheese (no cheese for vegans), lemon tart, bottomless ice tea and lemonade Lemons, avocados and honey all grown on site!

All access participation in the following activities:
11:00 - 1:30 Washing Raw Fleece and Dyeing Fiber: Basic overview of scouring fleece and dyeing. Both natural and chemical dyes will be demonstrated. Several ounces of wool wiill be provided, more wool will be available for purchase.

1:00-1:30 Lunch (see menu from above, registration includes food...sorry no discount if you chose to bring your own)

1:30 - 2:30 Drop Spindle Spinning : Drop spindles and carders will be provided for everyone to try their hand at spinning!

2:30 - 3:30 Needle Felting: Learn to make basic shapes and figures with wool, felting needles and our special corn foam felting pads. Several ounces of wool will be available for each student.

3:30 - 5:00 Yarn and Fiber Swap/White Elephant - Bring a minimum of one yarn or prepared fiber (minimum 4 oz) that you would like to swap with participants!  You never know what yummy fiber or yarny treasure you will bring home! (partipation is optional)

Are Children and Significant Others Welcome?
Yes, with registration all significant others and children can attend. It is up to the discretion of the Urban Fauna Studio if minors can participate in certian activities. But we anticipate children will be able to participate in Spinning, Felting and White Elephant.

Need a ride?
UPDATE **05/15/09** Carpools are full from SF. Please e-mail us if you need absolutely need a ride to the event. Do not register if you need to confirm a ride as your registration fees are non-refundable.

Is my registration refundable?
After payment you will not be refunded even if you change your mind and cannot attend. Due to the closeness of the event date, your funds will be used immediately to purchase supplies and food.

Will there be supplies for sale?
Sandra will have salve and honey to sell in addition to a great stash of wool in all stages (dyed, undyed, batts, roving, etc) and of course fleeces. UFS will have a selection of supplies and tools on hand to sell also. So bring some extra cash if you would like to purchase some wool to dye or spin while at the farm. You are welcome to bring your own materials to work with.  Sandra's brother will also be available to do portriats of you or your children with the baby lambs!

Child Participant - $35.00 - Age 12 and under
Visitor (not participating in fiber activities, include lunch) - $25.00
